On January 26, the trailer for Charoki’s original series ‘Feu’ was released, drawing attention to two key time periods: one in 1979 and the other in 2002.
The series, inspired by true events, will officially be available at midnight on January 29, 2024 (January 30).
Director Sukorn Sahed Dheeman explained that the show blends real-world events with fiction, aiming to weave together both international and local politics, as well as cultural themes. He added that the characters in the series are deeply political, and the storyline reflects the political landscape of the Khulna-Sundarbans region. In his words, ‘Feu’ embodies this vision.
The series takes inspiration from the Marichjhapi Massacre, though it remains a fictional tale.
The cast includes Tariq Anam Khan as Kazi, Chanchal Chowdhury as Sunil, Mostafizur Noor Imran as Marshal, Tahmina Athoi as Sunita Devi, and Rizvi Riju as Palash. Tanveer Apurba plays Daniel, and Hossain Jibon portrays Sohel.
According to the director, the word ‘Feu’ is central to the plot, not just as a title, but as a symbol that resonates throughout the story. ‘Feu’ represents the fear and tension that people carry in their everyday lives, with the series exploring the impact of living in a constant state of fear. This made the title ‘Feu’ feel like a natural fit.
Tariq Anam Khan, who plays the powerful and politically charged character Kazi, shared his thoughts: “Kazi is an influential figure in the area, heavily involved in politics. He holds power in every corner of the community, but he doesn’t flaunt it. Through this character, the series captures the complex political dynamics of the region.”
Chanchal Chowdhury, who also stars in the series, recalled the challenging conditions they faced during filming: “We shot in the Sundarbans during a bitterly cold period. For over a month, we spent nights on boats, and it was freezing. But what was even scarier than the cold was the presence of crocodiles. Every morning, we would spot them and other animals just outside our windows. We had to travel by small boats to get to the shooting locations, even at night, which made the whole experience tough.”
While ‘Feu’ draws inspiration from the tragic events of the 1979 Marichjhapi Massacre in West Bengal, it is a work of fiction. The story was written by Sukorn Sahed Dheeman and Romel Rahman, with the screenplay penned by Sukorn Sahed Dheeman and Siddiq Ahmed.
