Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, on Monday highlighted the growing cooperation between Bangladesh and India in the readymade garments (RMG) and textile sectors, calling it a testament to the interdependence and mutual benefit shared by both nations. Addressing an interactive session with leading businesses and business chambers from Bangladesh’s textile sector, Verma emphasized the significance of the RMG sector in Bangladesh’s socio-economic development and its role in fostering stronger supply and value chain linkages between the two countries.
The event, organized by the High Commission of India in Bangladesh, was held in anticipation of the upcoming Bharat Tex-2025, a major global textile event that will bring together key stakeholders from the textile industry, covering the entire textile value chain. Bharat Tex-2025 is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from February 14–17, 2025.
Verma expressed hope that a large delegation from Bangladesh would participate in the exhibition, which he believes would open new opportunities for establishing supply chain linkages, as well as creating investment and technology partnerships across various segments of the textile industry. He also conveyed optimism that continued trade connectivity and economic collaboration between Bangladesh and India would bring the people and businesses of both nations closer together.
The session saw the presence of prominent figures including Anwar Hossain, Administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Vice-Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), and Mohammad Hatem, President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), and Md. Jashim Uddin, Chairman of Bengal Commercial Bank and Vice Chairman of Bengal Group of Industries, were also special guests at the event.
Industry representatives from Bangladesh expressed their eagerness to participate in Bharat Tex-2025 and voiced confidence that the increased economic engagement with India would open new avenues and growth opportunities for Bangladesh’s garment industry. They emphasized that the growing partnership between the two countries is expected to significantly benefit the RMG sector and further strengthen the bilateral trade relations.
