Sargis Alam, the coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and chief organizer of the National Citizens Committee, commented that the fire at the Secretariat was a conspiracy. He said, “The dead dog found in the Secretariat itself proves that this is a conspiracy.”

He made these remarks on Thursday (December 26) while speaking to journalists at the ‘Thakurgaon Rising’ event organized by the National Citizens Committee at the Thakurgaon Press Club.

Sargis Alam said, “In one room of the Secretariat and in another, the fire occurred in rooms nearly 100 meters apart. How is this possible? Fire spreads gradually from a specific area. But two rooms that are involved in the fire belong to individuals who were part of the coup and are now representing the current government. The rooms of advisors Asif Mahmud and Nahid Islam.”

He further said, “We learned through the media that a dead dog was found in the Secretariat. How could a dog be inside a room in the Secretariat? Is there another conspiracy here? We are certain that a conspiracy exists. We need to remain united to observe and resist attempts to destabilize the country.”

Referring to the high-ranking officials in the Secretariat, Sargis said, “A large portion of the bureaucrats has legitimized all the injustices and wrongdoings of the past 16 years. Many of them have implemented the family rule of the killer Hasina in government offices.”

He added, “For a long time, revolutionaries in the bureaucracy and government have shown civility from their positions. This civility may no longer be relevant, as proven by yesterday’s fire in the Secretariat. Some bureaucrats are still working in favor of the killer Hasina in the Secretariat. How can the Secretariat remain safe?”

On the National Citizens Committee, he said, “This is not a political party; it is a political force. Everyone feels that something new is needed. The leadership of Bangladesh has been destroyed. The Citizens Committee will serve as a platform for creating competent leadership according to future demands.”

Regarding elections, Sargis Alam said, “Before a mass uprising, if it had been suggested that two or three years should be given for reforms, not just political parties, but even ordinary people would have agreed. However, we cannot extend the election period and drag the country into a fragile situation. It has been less than five months since the mass uprising, and this government must be given the standard time and opportunity for reforms.”
