DHAKA, Jan 01, 2025 (BSS) – Expatriate Bangladeshis sent home a record-breaking $2.64 billion in remittances in December, marking an impressive 32 percent increase compared to the same month last year. In December 2023, the country had received around $2 billion in remittances.

This surge contributed to a significant year-on-year growth in remittances, which rose by 27.56 percent during the first half (July to December) of the current fiscal year (FY25). The total remittance inflow for this period reached $13.78 billion, up from $10.80 billion last year.

A senior official from the central bank shared with BSS that the upward trend in remittance inflows reflects the positive impact of government initiatives aimed at simplifying and encouraging legal channels for non-resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) to send money back home.
