Tragedy Strikes Kushtia: Female Police Constable Found Dead at Home
Kushtia town was rocked by tragedy on the evening of 25 December, as the body of Rubina Khatun, a 28-year-old police constable, was discovered in her home in the Kamalapur area. Rubina, who worked in the General Record Office (GRO) of the Kushtia court, was known for her dedication and professionalism.
The heartbreaking discovery was made after Rubina’s colleagues became concerned when she did not answer repeated phone calls throughout the day. Fearing for her safety, they alerted a neighbor, who contacted Rubina’s husband, Alal Sheikh. According to the neighbor, Rubina had reportedly been unwell and had stayed behind closed doors since morning.
Worried by the lack of response, her colleagues forced entry into the house, only to find Rubina’s lifeless body hanging from a ceiling fan.
Rubina’s family, friends, and colleagues are devastated by her untimely demise. She hailed from Ramnagar village in Meherpur district and was married to Alal, 30, of Ratanpur village. Together, they were raising two young children, who were fortunately staying with relatives at the time of the incident.
Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shihabur Rahman Shihab stated that initial investigations suggest the possibility of suicide. However, he emphasized that the exact cause of death would be confirmed after an autopsy.
“This is a deeply tragic incident. We have launched a thorough investigation to determine what happened,” OC Shihab said.
Rubina’s husband was reportedly present in the house on the day of the incident, as both had taken a holiday. This has raised further questions that police are looking into as part of their investigation.
The news has left the local community mourning the loss of a young mother and public servant. Rubina’s life was a blend of responsibilities—balancing her duties as a police constable and a mother. Her untimely death has sparked an outpouring of grief from those who knew her.
As her family waits for answers, the community is left grappling with the loss of a promising life that ended too soon.
